When are the governments going to make changes and laws concerning EV regulations? I don’t want to wake any sleeping dogs, or for the Dutch “geen slapende honden wakker maken”. You probably guessed by my headline, if there is one thing EV’s have in common its they are so damn quiet.
Exhaust sound as we know fading away
Maybe you are like me and holding on to the past, but I love a good sounding car or exhaust. As I mentioned in my other blog post check it here. I was sceptic and afraid as I guess a lot of you are too. Afraid that we no longer could enjoy the sound and feeling of a car with a combustion engine.
Currently I am exploring the possibilities and already existing options of adding a ‘’fake’’ sound to EV’s. I know what you are going to say, its not real and why do I want an electric car sounding like a V8, V10 or Turbo. Well you maybe right. But how cool is it when your car sounds like K.I.T.T. or the futuristic sound of a Star Wars Speeder.
Fake sound mandated
As a matter of fact a Commission Delegated Regulation (EU) 2017/1576 mandates that all new types of electric and hybrid cars to be fitted with a new safety device as from 1 July 2019, the acoustic vehicle alerting system (AVAS). https://www.theverge.com/2019/7/1/20676854/electric-cars-artificial-safety-noise-low-speeds-european-union-rules-2019-2021
Now to be honest, I don’t know how many EV’s are currently equipped with a “fake” sound. Personally I think it is a good idea. Its not only safer but also very awesome. Tell me what you think. Fake sound or not? And if you like it two, which sounds do you want to hear coming from a EV?
